How to train effectively as an intermediate athlete?
Hi! My name is Darek Woś.
I’ve been training calisthenics myself and teaching others for over 7 years. During that time I was able to achieve all of these incredible skills that aspiring athletes dream of
Planches, levers, muscle-ups… You name it.
Calisthenics allowed me to become truly strong, transform my body and mind, develop confidence and self-discipline, and sooo much more…
…but it’s not always an easy journey.
When you need a change in your training
When I first started calisthenics back in 2015 I was able to progress pretty quickly in pull-ups, push-ups, planks, and other basic exercises
I felt extremely motivated by the early results, but this motivation would quickly fade away when I reached a certain level in my training.
After a few months, I noticed that my progress slowed down. I was struggling to learn more advanced exercises, and I was not getting stronger that fast anymore.
So what happened??
You need to realize that most athletes, sooner or later come to a point when their progress slows down, your regular training becomes inefficient, and the next progressions seem impossible to achieve
You reach the plateau.
=> When you get tired of your training routine.
=> When your workouts are no longer effective
=> When you’re looking for something new
This is the most important moment and the greatest challenge that you need to overcome in your training journey!
I made a lot of mistakes at this point and it took me months to realize what I was doing wrong. I remember feeling frustrated and almost losing the drive to accomplish my fitness goals. Doing the same basic routines over and over again didn’t work anymore so I had to make a change…
Optimizing my training led to incredible results
I started researching different progression methods, exercises, workout splits, routines… and testing them on myself. After many trials and errors, I finally felt like I was going in the right direction.
I learned that in order to get to the next level, you need to introduce a science-based approach to your training.
=> You need to be able to achieve Progressive Overload, but not overtrain or rush progressions too fast
=> You need to know what movements and progressions are most effective and optimal for you
=> You need to pay extra attention to proper form, warm-up, and mobility work that will complement your workouts
=> You need to know exactly What, When, and How to do based on your individual level
You need the System
After introducing such a system into my training I started progressing so incredibly fast that I couldn’t actually believe it! Every week I could do more reps, hold skills longer, and perform new exercises with ease.
I realized that I might have just discovered the MOST EFFECTIVE training formula in calisthenics!
